Sea Staff Bookings

To book on a voyage as sea staff, including assessment voyages, email

Forthcoming and short notice sea staff vacancies will be advertised in the weekly email newsletter.

Where there are several applicants for sea staff berths on popular voyages (such as the Tall Ships Race) priority will be given to those who have helped OYT South in other ways, such as helping with winter refits.

You will need to have paid your annual membership (£36) and sailing fee (£100 [£70 concessions]) before you sail on your first voyage of the season.

You will also need to have a Disclosure and Barring Service background check (the replacement for the old CRB/Criminal Records Bureau check) before you are allowed to sail with young people. This takes several weeks to arrange, so please plan ahead! Email the office to arrange your OYT South DBS check.

Shortly before the start of a voyage you should receive an email telling you who the other sea staff on that voyage will be; who the crew will be; joining times; where the boat will be; and any other useful information.

Sometimes we will also appeal for one member of the sea staff on a particular voyage to act as liaison officer with a group of crew members in advance of the voyage, answering questions and perhaps even doing a visit to the group to prepare them for the trip.

“This trip was excellent. I met lots of great people. I'll take as many memories back home as I can.” James, 13
