First aid and diesel courses & Mark's speech

Training

Training weekend 18 & 19 February 2012

OYT South will be holding a training weekend for volunteers on the weekend of 18th and 19th February 2012.

Please note that all courses are currently full - we are taking names for a reserve list in case anyone drops out, right up to the last minute. If you want to be a reserve, please email webmaster1@oytsouth.org and include a phone number so we can let you know quickly if a place becomes available.

The following courses are running:

RYA One-day First Aid - Sat 18 Feb.
RYA Basic Sea Survival - Sat 18 Feb.
RYA Marine Radio Short Range Certificate - Sun 19 Feb
Child Protection - Sun 19 Feb (morning only - it's a 3-hour session)
Lifejacket packing - Sun 19 Feb (afternoon only - it's a 2-hour course)
RYA Diesel engines - Sat 18 Feb OR Sun 19 Feb (both all day)

A few people provisionally reserved places but haven't yet confirmed or paid, which makes it a little hard to know where we have spaces - do please ask about any course as it may be that a few people will drop out and reserves will get in.

Other courses will only run if we get enough people interested in doing them (the cost per head is too high if numbers are low). Please email webmaster1@oytsouth.org if you would be interested in the RYA Radar course or the Basic Food Hygiene course. It is also possible that we might run an extra Radio course on the Saturday if there is enough interest.

All courses will be held in TS Hornet Sea Cadet Unit, Gosport, except Sea Survival which takes place at KTY Yachts, Universal Marina.

First aid and the radio course will run from 9am to 5pm; Sea Survival takes a bit longer so will start at 0845; Child Protection is a 3-hour session which will run on Sunday morning, and Lifejacket Packing is another short course which will run for a couple of hours on Sunday afternoon. Please do both Child Protection and Lifejacket Packing if you can! We'll send out final details on timings as soon as we have them.

There will be a supper and social event on Saturday evening after the courses - all welcome, whether or not you are taking part in the training. Just use the booking form and click "dinner".

For all courses, email to reserve a place. Once you have had email confirmation that a place is available, please use the form here to confirm your booking and make your payment. Please don't pay for a place until we have confirmed that there is space for you!

Basic maintenance and engine care. Awareness of the main systems of a marine diesel engine. Able to take simple measures to prevent mechanical breakdown at sea and rectify defects which do not require workshop support. Price £75. Instructor Adam. Recommended for bosuns plus second mates and above.

Email to reserve a place. Once you have had email confirmation that a place is available, please use the form here to confirm your booking and make your payment.

The booking form also allows you to book lunch on either day; dinner on Saturday night; overnight accommodation in the Sea Cadet Unit (mattresses on the floor); and breakfast on the Sunday morning.

All these courses are open to anyone, although if courses are over-subscribed, priority is given to active OYT South members and those planning to join our sea staff.
