John Laing

Sponsorship and donations

MAKE A DONATION - 88.6% of our expenditure in 2009-10 went on the direct delivery of our charitable services. A further 9.9% went on fundraising activities - an exceptional figure associated with our 50th anniversary events - which showed a clear net profit which also went towards our charitable services.

Ocean Youth Trust South is enormously grateful for the donations of funds or equipment we receive from many individuals and organisations, as well as many contributions in the form of time and expertise. Without this support, we would not be able to keep our vessel, John Laing, in such good condition, and offer so many opportunities for young people from different backgrounds.

Our sincere thanks to all who have helped us this year and in the past.

This funding for John Laing has been given by the Rufford Maurice Laing Foundation in memory of Sir Maurice Laing who had a long-standing interest in the project.

The Peter Dixon Charitable Trust supports the Peter Dixon Mohawk Voyage Programme, funding berths for disadvantaged young people. Peter Dixon was the captain of the destroyer HMS Mohawk, which was sunk in the Mediterranean during the Second World War, with the loss of 43 lives. Peter Dixon survived and went on to take a great interest in helping under-privileged young people.

You can read the impressions of one of our donors after taking part in a voyage with young people here.
