ASTO Guernsey to Poole Small Ships Race in celebration of the RNLI 200th Anniversary
Guernsey to Poole 10th – 17th August 2024
Places available for young people aged 14-25.
2024 is the 200th anniversary of the RNLI and there will be more than 70 projects around the country to celebrate their remarkable history of saving lives at sea. One of these events will be a race for sail training vessels crewed by young people – Prolific is taking part and there are places still available for young people who want to join the crew!
The voyage is:
10-17 Aug, Guernsey to Poole, 7 nights, £815 per person (not including travel) – ideal for age range 14-25. [BURSARY FUNDING AVAILABLE]
We will be racing against other sail training vessels crewed by young people. No previous sailing experience necessary, as our staff and volunteers can provide all the support you need; but 14-25-year-olds with sailing or racing experience are always welcome!
Of course it doesn’t take seven days to sail from Guernsey to Poole … The idea is that our crew will join on Saturday 10th August and have introductions, safety briefings and boat familiarisation on board. There will be activities for all the crews on Sunday and a chance to see something of Guernsey, and then on Monday there will be a day sail to get all the crews trained up with their boats and ready to race. The race itself will start on Tuesday but it won’t be sailing straight to Poole – there will be a waypoint to go round and (depending on the weather) this might take us on quite a long route! Eventually the fleet will gather in Poole and there will be some fantastic events organised with the RNLI training college there – including the prizegiving on Friday night – before our crew goes home on the Saturday.
It will be your responsibility to arrange travel to Guernsey in order to join the boat; but our staff will offer advice if we can; and it may be possible to put you in touch with others who would like to travel together. You will need to ensure that you have passports and any other travel documentation required for Guernsey.
