INFORMATION ON SUPPORTING OCEAN YOUTH TRUST SOUTH
The cost of running OYT South is currently around £400,000 pa.
92.6% of expenditure in 2021-22 went on the direct delivery of our charitable services. (The remainder includes fundraising and governance costs).
In a normal season, berth sales to individuals and youth groups, plus membership and mates fees, deliver approximately half our funds.
This means that any young person sailing in Prolific, even if they get no specific bursary funding, will only pay 50% of the true cost of their place. OYT South has to raise the balance through fundraising – whether from individuals, grant-giving bodies, corporate sponsors or events.
This helps to pay for the essential costs of running the charity, of which the largest items are staff costs for a team of seven people: three working on board our vessel and four (full-time equivalent) ashore; and vessel maintenance and equipment.
A third key area is the need to offer bursary funding to young people who would have a great deal to gain from the sail training experience, but who cannot afford even our subsidised voyage fees.
Anyone interested in finding out more about the packages available to OYT South donors and sponsors, or wanting to know more about our fundraising team, should contact the office.
