Raise and sail – Raising Money

If you are going to do something, you might as well enjoy it, so the first rule of fundraising is FUN.

What can I do to raise money?

If you are going to do something, you might as well enjoy it, so the first rule of fundraising is FUN.

Whether you are planning to raise money by yourself or are part of a group getting ready to sail, finding ways to raise money that are also fun and interesting things to do will make everything so much easier.

Don’t be fooled into thinking you have to have one huge idea – lots of little projects can work just as well. Think about the things you are good at, the things that would be a challenge, the places you could raise money and the amount of time you have to organise everything.

I NEED SOME IDEAS!

No problem, that’s what we are here for. We have ideas for individuals and team efforts, for sports and for challenges, for dressing, for making and for baking. They are all here on the Fundraising Ideas page.
GIVE ME IDEAS

I’VE GOT AN IDEA ALREADY.

Fantastic. But how do you know if it is a good one?

Run it through our money-making scheme ideas checklist and find out – the more times you answer YES, the better your idea is going to be.

Is it unusual?
Nobody is going to give you money to do something you would be doing anyway. So getting sponsored to clean your teeth probably won’t work.

Is it a challenge?
If you want people to part with their money, you need to impress them. A sponsored swim is a lot harder than a sponsored watch TV – and we think you’ll raise more with the swimming!

Is it interesting?
Learn a new skill, teach other people something or give your event a sailing theme.
From teaching knot tying to dressing up as Jack Sparrow, an idea that gets people talking is much more likely to get them giving.

Is it safe?
If it isn’t, don’t do it. Nobody wants to be part of a bad idea and anything that isn’t safe or legal is definitely a bad idea.

Make sure everyone is comfortable with your idea and then you’ll find that they are much more likely to get involved and give you a hand.
