Nominate a young person for an amazing FREE voyage
Thanks to generous sponsorship from JPS Fuels, we are delighted to offer two young people from West Berkshire the opportunity to participate in a 4 night voyage on board the sail training vessel Prolific between 12th and 16th August 2026.
This voyage would normally cost £540 per person but due to the generosity of JP from JPS Fuels, who benefitted himself from sailing with us as a teenager, two places are now available FREE for selected candidates aged 12-16.
The voyage starts and finishes in Brixham, Devon, starting at 2pm on Wednesday 12th August and ending at 11am on Sunday 16th August.
No sailing experience needed. A voyage with Ocean Youth Trust South is not just about learning to sail: the experience is designed to develop confidence, communication, team-working, the ability to cope with unfamiliar situations, tolerance and understanding of others, mental and physical wellbeing and more.
Nominate a young person
You can nominate anyone as long as they will be aged 12-16 on 12th August 2026, they live in West Berkshire, and they wouldn’t be able to have a fun or adventurous holiday this summer without a scheme like this.
It might be someone who has never previously had the chance to sail – perhaps someone who has had limited opportunities all their life for holidays or adventure. It might be someone who is working hard and doing well, and deserves a reward. It might be someone who has struggled or been through hard times and needs a confidence boost. Perhaps someone is a young carer, or has shown an incredible act of courage, or deserves a treat and rarely gets one. Or you might be concerned about a young person and want to give them a chance of a positive activity.
We want you to tell us the reason why your nominated young person should be chosen, using the form below.
Places will be offered to the two most compelling applications in June, as soon as possible after the closing date on 29th May,
Please note that the selected participants will also be required to fill in an Ocean Youth Trust South booking form before a place on the voyage can be confirmed. This form will ask for details of medical conditions, allergies, physical or learning difficulties, behaviour issues etc., in order that we can be certain that people can safely take part in the voyage, and to ensure that appropriate support can be provided to everyone on board. If you are concerned that you may be nominating a young person who will have anything of this nature to declare, please feel free to contact caroline.white@oytsouth.org to discuss in confidence whether the young person is likely to be eligible for the voyage.
Terms and Conditions
– Open to young people aged 12 – 16 years old on 12th August 2026.
– Participants must be resident in West Berkshire. (Please note that Ocean Youth Trust South has plenty of other voyages available to young people without any restrictions on where they live, as well as places open to those who do not need funding help).
– Nominations close at 11.59pm on Friday 29th May 2026.
– Voyage dates are non-negotiable.
– Individuals must be available to sail from Brixham (Devon) and back between 2pm on Wednesday 12th August and 11am on Sunday 16th August. Parents / guardians are responsible for travel to and from Brixham.
– The award is non- transferable and has no monetary value.
– Selected participants must adhere to Ocean Youth Trust South’s terms and conditions.
– Permissions from parents/guardians will be needed for participation in the voyage.
– Selected participants will be required to fill in an Ocean Youth Trust South booking form before a place on the voyage can be confirmed.
